What is oral and maxillofacial surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery relates to any surgical procedure done within and around the oral cavity. Thus, the procedures can range from a simple removal of teeth to a complex orthognathic surgery where the jaws are surgically repositioned in relation to the head and neck.

Common procedures:

The more common procedures of oral surgery are as follows:

  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • Soft and hard tissue lesion biopsies
  • Surgical implant placement
  • Bone grafts
  • Excision and biopsy of soft tissue lesions

When should I get an oral and maxillofacial surgery?

Due to the invasive nature of any surgery, we only advocate surgery after consultation with either our dentists or surgeon. Most minor surgeries can be performed onsite under local anaesthetic. For your comfort, we also work with visiting anaesthetists who can provide Intravenous sedation. Sometimes, a general anaesthetic is warranted and we perform our surgeries at specialised day surgery centers nearby.
