Dr. Andrew Lui

Founding Partner / Dental Surgeon
BDS (Melbourne)

Dr. Andrew Lui is an Australian dentist from Melbourne. He is an old boy of the Melbourne High School and Alumni of both the University of Melbourne and of the University of London, obtaining a dental degree and a law degree respectively. In Melbourne, he sat on the Australian Dental Association’s Public Sector Dentist Committee in Victoria. He also contributed regularly to the Royal Guide Dogs’ Association as a volunteer carer for the visually impaired.

He moved to Singapore in 2001 and set up Dental Essence with Dr Gareth Pearson in 2009. He enjoys precious family time with his wife and 2 young daughters. Despite his work and family commitments, he serves as a volunteer dentist with the Tzu Chi free clinic on a regular basis and has been doing so since 2007.
He has been interviewed for print media in the Business Times and Straits Times. On radio, he has spoken on the topic of “dental tooth erosion” with DJ Daniel Martin on 938 Live.

Besides English, Dr Lui is also fluent in Cantonese.


Dr. Gareth Pearson

Founding Partner / Dental Surgeon
BDS MSc (UK)

Dr. Pearson arrived in Singapore in 2001 and has worked here since opening Dental Essence with Dr. Andrew Lui in 2009. Gareth obtained his degree from the University of Birmingham in the UK and later pursued a Master’s degree in Forensic Odontology in 2000 which was put to use following the Asian Tsunami on 2004. He is a general dentist and has years of experience in oral surgery and aesthetic dentistry such as teeth whitening, inlays, ceramic veneers, crowns and bridges.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Pearson, enjoys endurance events and had run several marathons. He rowed across the Atlantic Ocean with his brother in 2005, he swam the Straits of Gibraltar on 2012 raising money for the Special Olympics and he participated in the Escape from Alcatraz swim in San Francisco on May 2013. Before coming to Singapore, he spent 6 months on a ship in the Antarctic as a dental officer for the British Antarctic Survey and also worked in a dental clinic treating the Aboriginal community in Queensland’s outback.


Dr. Linda Yen

Dental Surgeon
BDS Hons (Sydney) FRACDS

Dr Linda Yen is an Australian dentist who graduated with honours from the University of Sydney in 1998.  Since graduation, she has worked in hospital private practices in Australia and the UK.  She moved to Singapore with her husband in 2012.

Dr Yen was admitted to the prestigious Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2008.  She attends various lectures and conferences to get updates on the latest technology. You will get excellent up to date care.

Dr Yen offers life cycle family health treatments which makes patients smile with confidence:

  • Preventive— prevent and treat oral issues such as decay, gum problems, root canal issues, erosion, grinding, sensitive teeth, cracks, and potential teeth alignment issues.
  • Aesthetic veneers to makeover your smile—design and change the shape and colour of your teeth. Your smile will be transformed completely in just a few visits.
  • In-chair whitening –using the latest generation of Zoom machine to achieve great results in 2 hours.
  • Myobrace (trained in Australia) – this is a pre-orthodontic treatment (best for 5-10 years old) using appliances to correct bad oral habits such as mouth breathing, incorrect swallowing and incorrect tongue function. It will help to straighten teeth.
  • Invisalign (certified Invisalign provider) – using invisible aligners to straighten teeth instead of braces.
  • Paediatric care – she used to work in the paediatric department in Sydney Dental Hospital.  Being a mother of two young kids, Dr Yen understands the challenges that mothers are facing with their little ones.   She is passionate about preventive dentistry, and has information on diet, oral hygiene, fluoride, snoring, grinding and more that she is happy to share.

Dr Sherilyn Loh

Dental Surgeon
BDS National University of Singapore

Dr Sherilyn Loh graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from National University of Singapore. After graduation, she gained extensive exposure at various public institutions such as Toa Payoh Polyclinic, Health Promotion Board and National Dental Centre. She had exposure in specialist clinics for crowns, bridges and dentures, treatment of oral and gum diseases, children’s dentistry, root canal treatment and nightguard fabrication.

Dr Sherilyn finds great joy in restoring patients’ oral health and function, and in giving them the confidence to smile. She is passionate about the use of novel technologies for caries prevention, stain removal, tooth whitening and treatment of sensitive teeth. A firm believer in the adage that prevention is better than cure, she customizes preventive plans for each of her patients according to their needs, so that they can keep dental diseases such as decay and gum disease at bay.

Dr Sherilyn has treated numerous patients with dental phobia, both young and old. She derives immense satisfaction from helping them overcome their fears. She has also had extensive experience in treating anxious kids at the Health Promotion Board and School Dental Service. As a mother herself, she feels for fearful child patients and seeks to make their dental visits fun, enjoyable and memorable.

Dr Sherilyn makes an active effort to attend courses and keep abreast with the latest dental developments so that she can provide the best care for her patients. She has interned at institutions like Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and has attended several overseas conferences in Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur. She can also be found attending courses during the weekends. This includes a four weekend long Master course in Implants, which honed her knowledge and skills in implant dentistry. In her free time, she has also volunteered as a dentist at non profit organisations like HealthServe, and has been on mission trips to Cambodia to offer dental care to the needy.

Besides oral health, Dr Sherilyn also values general wellbeing. She enjoys long distance running and yoga in her free time. She loves baking for her friends, family and for charity, and is especially interested in creating vegan and diabetic friendly treats. She believes that general wellness and oral health work in synergy, and hopes to instill this awareness in her patients. Dr Loh speaks fluent Mandarin.


Dr Asha K. Karan

Dental Surgeon
BDS National University of Singapore, DGDP (UK), Grad Dip Dental Implantology (Singapore)

Dr. Asha K. Karan has been practising dentistry for more than 40 years — and is still loving it!

She graduated from the National University of Singapore and has been continually updating her skills and knowledge in dentistry. She holds a Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons, UK, and received the Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology (Singapore).  This dentist is one of the early adopters in Singapore of the CAD-CAM technology of Invisalign, receiving her certification in 2006.

Her continuous education has allowed her to provide a range of services to her patients from alignment of teeth, preserving teeth with fillings and crowns and gum treatment; and when necessary, replacing teeth with implants or dentures.

Her philosophy of practice is simple. Help patients to achieve health and coach them to maintain that health.

Her strong belief in health education led her to be President of the Singapore Dental Health Foundation – an organisation dedicated to public education and health promotion. She led this organization for 8 years. Dr Asha is also an active member of the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore and the College of General Dental Practitioners. Her other professional achievements include holding several positions in the Singapore Dental Association. Indeed, her many contributions earned her a place in the Singapore Dental Association’s Roll of Honour.

She managed her own highly personalised dental practice for 30 years. Having sold that practice, she is now enjoying working as an associate in a group practice that resonates with her values.


Dr Spencer Douglas

Dental Surgeon
BDS Hons University of Liverpool (UK)

Dr Spencer graduated with honours from the University of Liverpool in 2019 and moved to Singapore from the UK in September 2023. Post qualification he has amassed experience working in reputable dental practices in Manchester and north Wales, notably Rhos on Sea. His commitment to healthcare was evident during the pandemic when Dr Spencer volunteered himself to work with COVID-19-positive patients in the Nightingale Hospital (UK). Dr Spencer has an interest in cosmetic dentistry, he has undertaken training in arias such as clear aligners, crown lengthening surgery and composite veneers.

Dr Spencer has shown commitment to professional development helping to train and mentor student nurses and help them progress in their careers within dentistry.
In his spare time, Spencer enjoys cooking, water sports, hiking and golf. He is keen to continue development in the field of cosmetic dentistry and aims towards being able to offer implants and full mouth rehabilitation.

Dr. Loo Sun Din

Oral Maxillo-Facial Surgeon
MDS [OMFS][HK], BDS [NUS], FAMS [Singapore]

Dr Loo Sun Din is a Specialist in Jaw and Face Surgery.

He first qualified from National University of Singapore in 2005 before awarded a scholarship to pursue post-graduate specialist training in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Hong Kong where he developed a discerning interest in facial recontouring, complex jaw and face surgery and dental implant rehabilitation.

Dr Loo dedicated eleven years of his career in public service at the busiest surgical units in Hong Kong and Singapore, holding clinical positions in Queen Mary Hospital (HKG), Prince Philip Dental Hospital (HKG), Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (SGP) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (SGP).

Currently, he maintains his role as Visiting Consultant to several public and private hospitals in Singapore.

Embracing sharing and exchange of knowledge, Dr Loo is a teaching faculty in local and overseas surgical courses in corrective jaw & facial surgeries and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSAS).

He is member of Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen (AOCMF) and International Society of Head and Neck Trauma (iSHANT).

He also co-wrote the chapter in dental implants for surgery textbook “Atlas of Operative Maxillofacial Trauma Surgery” in his spare time.


Dr. Damini Chawla Sharma

Dental Surgeon
BDS Hons (WA)

Dr. Damini Chawla is a passionate, driven and energetic general dentist with excellent interpersonal skills.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours at the University of Western Australia in 2010. She also received her elective training in New Delhi, India  in paediatric/children’s dentistry.

Dr. Chawla has lived and worked in Singapore since 2011. Having grown up in India, China and Australia she is very approachable and is able to relate to people across different cultural backgrounds.

Being a general dentist with a special interest in pediatric dentistry, and two young children of her own, she is excellent at managing young patients as well as adults with dental anxiety.

Dr. Chawla performs a variety of dental procedures ranging from routine cleans to fillings, crowns, extractions, teeth whitening and more complex prosthodontic work including implants. She is also an experienced and certified provider for Invisalign.

In her free time, she is a passionate foodie and loves to cook, travel and explore foods from different cultures. Dr. Chawla is a creative person and enjoys writing, painting and theatre. She spends a lot of time with her daughters exploring the outdoors in Singapore. She shares her adventures with food, art, writing and parenting through her personal blog and more recently on Instagram.

Dr. Damini Chawla is a kind and patient dentist who feels very strongly about building a relationship of trust with her patients ensuring they overcome their dental anxieties and develop healthy habits for a healthier smile long term.
